The late Hans Christoph Binswanger was Professor Emeritus of the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He was the founder and for many years served as the director of the Institute for Economy and Ecology at the University of St. Gallen. Among other awards, in 1980 he was awarded the West German Nature Conservation Prize.
Professor Binswanger has published widely on the economy and on the implications for ecology and the environment. His main opus is the book The Growth Spiral (2013). One of his former doctoral students is Josef Ackermann, who later became the chief executive of Deutsche Bank Group.
